- - - - - - - - | Rare Rene Lalique Monnaie du pape Glass Covered Wooden amaranth Box Rene Lalique Item # 2868 Click HERE to inquire about this item Lalique, Rare Monnaie du pape glass Rene Lalique amaranth Wood Box. This rare " Rene Lalique" French box measures 12 and three eighths inches wide and is 7 and five eighths inches deep. This Lalique wooden box measures 3 and three eighths inches high, to the top closed. The inside compartment measures 11 and one quarter inches wide and is 6 and three eighths inches deep and is 2 and three eighths inches down. This is one of the most beautiful boxes we have ever had. Signed on its top R Lalique. The bottom has script written that says Paris 29 12 1944. The top and key hole are glass. Condition, mint with the exception of one small sliver of veneer missing on its back base. To see a similar Lalique box see Page 73"The Art or Rene Lalique" by Patrica Bayer and Mark Waller. The box in this picture dates from 1920. A similar box is in the collection of the metropolitan Museum of Art in New York purchased in 1924

"Japanese Inro" this Period Antiques Japanese Inro dates from 1775 to 1850 and is in perfect condition. This "Inro" is signed by the artist. The quality of the workmanship is equal to any Inro in "Japanese Inro" by Julia Hutt, Victorian and Albert Museum collection. This Inro has a wonderful netsuke by Yoshitomo depicting a clam's dream. An open shell reveals a figural landscape with a castle and pavilions. The netsuke is signed and dates from late 18th to early 19th century. This netsuke has wonderful age wear .On the Inro there are raised flowers and birds along with very tight gold work. Inros from this period in this condition are quite rare.For a similar example of this clamp netsuke see Eldreds Japanese Art at auction volume 11 August 26 1992 #1926. For similar examples of Inro of this quality see Sotheby's Japanese Works of Art New York Tuesday September 14 1999 a sale where a large collection of Inros were sold.
