Mason Antique Rosewood Masonic Voting Box circa 1864

"Antique Voting Box" Antique rosewood masonic ballot box. circa 1864. This "Masonic" voting box is quite rare. On the front lid it is marked presented by E W French HP May 1864 on a sterling silver band.The top of the box has gold letters that says Eastern Chapter No 10. This wonderful piece of Mason or Masonic memorabilia measures 9 inches long 6 and one half inches wide and three and one half inches high. It was made to hold marbles to be used when a vote was to be taken. The ballots are marbles - black and white. They are in the box with the lid open. The flanges on the lid mask the hand as it chooses a marble - white for acceptance of a new member, black for rejection. The box is passed to each voting member and when the vote is over the lid is closed. The leader then opens the small drawer and announces whether the member is accepted or rejected. Each club decides how many black marbles, or balls, are required for rejection of the proposed member. This is where the expression "black-balled" comes from.This is one of the most beautifully made rosewood boxes we have ever had. Solid brass handle. This would be the ultimate gift for a Mason.

This antique jewelry or dresser box measures 7 and five sixteenths inches widest at feet and is 4 and 6 sixteenths deep at feet. This sandalwood box is 2 and three quarter inches high. This sandalwood box is hand carved and probably from the state of Mysore or Canara, India.

Antique Hand Carved Horn Snuff Box, This wonderful period "antique snuff box" is most probably European and dates from the 18th century. This "snuff box" depicts what appears to be an native that has just felled a deer. There are also flowers all around and a fish near the opening for the snuff box. this snuff box has the most beautiful original patina and wear.

"Cartier Cigarette Box" This 14 karat gold, burma ruby, and diamond cigarette "Cartier" gold case measures 2 and fifteen sixteenths inches wide and is 2 and three eighths inches deep. This Cartier gold, diamond, and ruby case measures 5 eighths of an inch high. Antique silverware case, this antique Mermod and Jaccard Jewelry company of St Louis silver flatware storage chest was made from birdseye maple.This beautiful silver chest measures 17 and three quarter inches wide and is 7 inches tall and 10 and three quarter inches deep. The drawer of this silverware chest measures 15 inches wide. The drawer locks with the top down. Original cloth material inside, one of the pictures shows the original label. Original brass hardware, birdseye maple. Signed under the drawer April 24, 1888. Other than the key missing this silver flatware box is in Excellent original condition.
