Antique Mogul Carved Sandalwood Box

This rare antique mogul hand carved sandalwood box measures 14 and one half inches wide by 5 inches tall by 10 and one half inches deep. It is mounted on a piece of ebony with brass feet. The brass hardware is original and is quite detailed. . Excellent condition, much detail.This is with out a doubt one of the best Jewelry boxes we have ever had. This box was made in Bombay in 1855. This piece was carved by a master carver.To see a similar example go to Furniture From British India And Ceylon by Amin Jaffer page 319.

Antique Carved Continental Oak Blanket Chest with Hidden document Drawer. This Rare travel box has a secret compartment. The side slides up to reveal a hidden drawer. All hand made original hardware. The front and top are set with marquetry. The primary wood is oak. This lovely piece dates from the mid 19thc. This handmade piece is a later copy of a Renaissance designs. Measures 28 and one quarter inches wide by 17 and three quarters inches deep and 15 and three quarter inches high. The inside secret drawer measures 13 inches wide by 24 inches long and 1 and three quarter inches high.Very good original as found condition,missing key.

Antique Annamese jewelry box with inlay

Antique Annamese jewelry box with inlaid with mother of pearl c1890. This wonderful pierce carved octagonal box measures 10 and one half inches across and four and one half inches high. The quality of the inlay work is as good as it gets obviously done by a master. There are flowers,birds,scrolls,butterflies,grasses inlaid all over the top and all eight of the interiors sides. Excellent original condition. There is a wonderful contrast in the way the mother of pearl was set to give a lovely three dimensional effect.For many years such rosewood boxes were labeled Chinese, mostly because they carry Buddhist/Taoist/Confucious motifs. Nobody has been able to duplicate the refined, precise cutting of shell, then placed into an artistic space by Annamese artists of the late 19thC/early 20thC. Or duplicate the exact reflective rainbow coloring of shells used by the Annamese. The purpose of the boxes were quite similar to Chinese stuff--gifts for wedding, food offerings, etc. Japanese MOP has a slick quality about it, not found on the mainland of SE Asia. Annamese is a region and former kingdom of central Vietnam on the South China Sea between Tonkin and Cochin China. It was ruled by China from 111 B.C. until A.D. 939 and came under French control in the 19th century.This beautiful box would make the perfect gift.

Vintage Arts Pennsylvania Tramp Art Box. This tramp art box measures 12 inches wide, from handle to handle, 6 inches high to the top closed, and is 8 inches deep. There is a paper label inside that says To Sister Anna from our brother Emilio. This is such a rare piece with its chipped carved knob that turns to move a hook that allows the lid to open. "This Tramp Art Box" has a lovely old patina and hand chipped carved handles.Just in from an important Tramp Art Collection that was put together over 35 years.
